Women's Breakfast for January

We will first meet for breakfast at Panera Bread in Fremont off Paseo Padre at 9:00am. Then we'll head on over to BART together and go to the city for Christmas shopping! The tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, and only $5 for a friend who does not attend InRoads. We are celebrating the birth of our new women's ministry program. This Wednesday, July 1st, we will enjoy this beautiful weather and go swimming! One of our Mom's, Calley Greenwood, lives where there is a pool available for all of our Mom's and babies to swim at! We will meet at the church at 12pm and from there follow each other to the pool. CityServes Compassion Network Presents...

The New Mom's Network! Hi Ladies-- Katie Szyrko and Jodi Harris started New Moms Network with CityServe's Compassion Network this spring. It is a volunteer based service to help brand new moms and their babies in the Tri-City Area as they have need. We provide essential baby items such as diapers, wipes, bottles, formula, clothing, and blankets. We also provide a weekly support group for the moms to attend with their babies for encouragement and help with parenting skills. Currently, we are in need of Enfamil Formula with LIPIL. We have a new mom that is temporarily living with Karen and Jim Vickers-- what a God story that is!-- and we are providing her with formula until WIC can help out. Any donations would be greatly appreciated and can be dropped off at the InRoads Church Office or to Compassion Network in the Family Resource Center in Fremont: 39155 Liberty Street #D450. We also are looking for volunteers to help in the Compassion office on Wednesday mornings from 10:00-11:30am. Hello all. Here is my story on how I have become passionate about Slave Labor, Fair Trade, and Sex Trafficking. I hope my story opens your life to a new way of shopping as women of God.

I first heard about sex trafficking in my college town 7 years ago when I was studying for my undergraduate degree at Sonoma State. A speaker had come into one of my seminars and shared how women were being sex trafficked into the San Fransisco area and re-located to Santa Rosa, CA. That news was overwhelming and heartbreaking. Within that year, I also went to a club that informed students about slave labor and how big corporations were outsourcing their companies across the world and pay cheep wages, if any, force people to work in poor working conditions and often threaten their lives. To say the least, I stopped going to the main store that they were talking about, and actually picketed the store. After some time I felt helpless on what I can do, I am only one person. I figured I would do my part and help with the non-profit, World Vision. I have adopted several children, in hopes that by sponsoring them, my consumerism can continue guilty free. Sponsoring these children is great! I know that through my donations, they can have something better, and hopefully learn about God. Amen!

Over the past year, God has really spoken to me about what I can be doing in my community, in my city, in my state, and for my country. I went at saw a movie, www.callandresponse.com which touched my life even further and gave me the nudge that I needed on taking action in my community. I have mapped out where there is slave labor and keep my eyes open for sex trafficking in the bay area. I have gone to coffee shops in Fremont and talked to some of the owners about Fair Trade. When I go shopping, I try and make conscious decisions. I am trying to shop locally, shop online and fight for justice. I want to inform my fellow sisters that you too can take action too. Step by step, hand by hand, and voice by voice, we can stir up something amazing! Check out some of the websites that I have posted, find your own and share! There are so many great sites! I just keep finding more and more. If you have any questions let me know! I want to encourage you to do what you can, it's not hard, shop consciously while saving lives!

Cancer Seminar

On Saturday the 25th of April at 1:00pm we will be having a guest speaker coming to Inroads informing us about cancer. She is not only going to be talking about cancer treatment but will also talk about the American Cancer Society resources, outreach and a general overview of cancer. This is such a great opportunity to be informed about the disease that kills so many. On top of it all, it's free! Please bring your friends, coworkers, and family.
